MILWAUKEE — Andre Nicholson, 24, has been identified by family as the person who was shot and killed while leaving a Milwaukee bar early Sunday morning. His death marks one of 184 on the year.
The shooting happened around 3:25 a.m. outside of a bar in Milwaukee's Third Ward neighborhood.
Following the shooting, Milwaukee police said a 23-year-old man turned himself in. Formal charges will be filed in the next few days.
TMJ4 News spoke with six of Nicholson's loved ones Monday. Three friends and three uncles.
“Why?" asked Fred Eason, a lifelong friend. "Whatever it could’ve been for, why? Why? I don’t think it was that serious to want to take that man’s life.”
Eason spoke with TMJ4 News as he was supported by friends. He said he's known Nicholson for years, through school and basketball. Their bond only grew stronger in time.
“He was an extremely caring person. The type of friend willing to give you his last dollar," Eason said.
Now, those are only memories after Sunday morning's shooting.
Andre's three uncles, Ollie, Oscar Jr. and Wilmur, helped raise him through the years.
“One of my greatest moments with him. It was teaching him how to ride a bike," Ollie Hunter said.
They said Andre was known to help others. He didn't fight, but would defend himself, his uncle Wilmur Hunter said.
