The excitement level for the 2017 Air & Water Show is at full throttle.
Over the course of the two-day event, 400,000 people are expected along Milwaukee's Lakefront.
Among the highlights: The U.S. Navy Blue Angels. They are sleek. They are fast. They are loud.
Each plane has already performed its duty in combat.
"A lot of these aircraft have 6,000-plus hours on them. They can be flown to 8,400 hours and that's when we normally retire them," said Blue Angels Senior Chief Petty Officer Chris Massicotte.
Some of the best pilots in the world are at the controls.
"The maneuvers we do are refinements of what regular pilots do in the fleet every day," Massicotte said.
Paula Nelson of Stars & Stripes Honor Flight said veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War will be on the ground watching the show.
"The exposure to the community helps us not only continue that support but also find veterans that haven't had their day of honor on an honor flight," she said.
Nelson encouraged people to visit with the veterans throughout the day.
The Air & Water Show runs July 15-16, from 10-4 p.m. each day.
