MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Police are searching for the man responsible for robbing a UWM student with a gun.
It happened early Wednesday near Oakland and Hartford. Now a neighborhood with high foot traffic is on high alert.
“You know, I say (this area is) safe, but actually I really wasn’t (shocked). I really wasn’t that shocked,” Kyah Probst said.
It happened just after midnight. Senior Abby Peterson said she saw the crime notification from the school Wednesday morning.
“I’ve seen a lot of notifications in the past like that. I’m surprised it happened more in this area,” Peterson said.
According to police, a man pointed a shotgun at the student and was able to take the student’s cellphone. He then left in a white, four-door car.
“I thought it was pretty surprising, That’s not an area I’d expect to see something like that, especially the use of a shotgun,” Ian Bergersen said.
Bergersen is studying to be a journalist. He said the notification prompted some questions.

“It said that they only took a cellphone. I’m just kind of curious. Why didn’t they take anything else?” Bergersen said.
And while waiting for answers, he said he’ll take safer routes when walking home at night.
