MILWAUKEE — The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has made the Best of a Best LGBTQ-friendly college campuses list, alongside two other Wisconsin schools.
The national nonprofit, Campus Pride, compiled a list of the 2020 best campuses for LGBTQ students and UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, and UW-Eau Clarie all made the list.
UW-Milwaukee got 5 out of 5 stars on the Campus Pride index, as did Green Bay and Eau Claire.
According to Campus Pride, in order to be in the “Best of the Best” listing, an institution had to score the highest percentages in the LGBTQ-friendly benchmarks for policies, programs, and practices.
"LGBTQ youth and families want to know what campuses are doing when it comes to inclusive policies, programs and practices. The ‘Best of the Best’ highlights the Top 40 this year across six regions throughout the country,” said Shane Windmeyer, executive director of Campus Pride and creator of the Campus Pride Index, in a statement. “Campus Pride is proud at the growing number of campuses that are ‘coming out’ and wanting to be the ‘Best of the Best’ each year.”
