WHITEWATER — Two children were killed in a crash involving a semi and an SUV hauling a camper trailer in Whitewater on Thursday night, according to the Walworth County sheriff.
A semi traveling south on U.S. Highway 12 approached an intersection where a Ford Excursion trailing a camper turned left from the northbound lane into the path of the semi. The semi struck the rear passenger side of the SUV, killing 14-year-old Kaylinn Wilken of Waterford, Wisconsin, and 7-year-old Olly Koelsch of Boise, Idaho.
The driver of the SUV, 44-year-old Kristina Wilken of Waterford, front passenger, 42-year-old Michael Koelsch of Boise, and Olly's twin were taken to local hospitals with injuries, the extent of which are unknown.
The sheriff's office told TODAY'S TMJ4 that Flight For Life was called.
The crash shut down lanes in both directions on Highway 12 on Thursday night about 7:30. All lanes were reopened Friday morning.
The semi driver was uninjured.
This is an ongoing investigation by multiple agencies.
