Thousands of people headed out and searched for clues in the disappearance of a missing Wisconsin teen.
13-year-old Jayme Closs has been missing since her parents were gunned down in their home last Monday.
More than 2,000 searchers showed up Tuesday morning to help look for clues. Recent tips have led to a decision to grid search an area about three miles away from the Closs family home where her parents were found dead.
Rita Deitelhoff, a volunteer searcher knew she wanted to be a part of the operation once the sheriff called for help Monday.
"Well, I have an 11-year-old granddaughter, so that's emotional," said Deitelhoff. "And I've driven through Barron a couple of times to go visit them this week. I seen the crime scene so yeah very touching, emotionally unbelievable the people that are here."
Volunteers split into groups and combed through fields and forests with sticks.
"The community support for this tragic event is unbelievable," Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said. "And so we want to bring Jayme home. We believe she's still out there and we're going to bring her home."
Investigators are also looking for two cars, a red or orange Dodge Challenger and a Black Ford Edge or Black Acura MDX.
They say these vehicles were seen on surveillance cameras of businesses and homes near the family home around the time of Jayme's disappearance.
Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped nearly 15 years ago, posted information about Jayme’s case on her Instagram page asking her followers to call police with any information.
Over the past week, officials have received more than 1,300 tips from the public. During Tuesday’s search, food and water were provided for volunteers. Medical teams are also on site.
