WAUKESHA — A Waukesha family's Halloween costume was stolen from their front porch earlier this week. Michael Markiewicz said he ordered a Batman and Kitten costume for his kids Jackson and Genevieve. When he got home, he noticed the package was missing.

"I noticed when we got home they were not on the front step," said Michael Markiewicz.

"Angry, angry that someone would ruin a child's Halloween,"said April Markiewicz.

The family contacted police who were able to find and return the kids costumes later that evening.

"They told us they had a surprise for us and we were the first people they were contacting because it's Halloween and they did not want Halloween to be ruined for the kids. They said it was all for the kids," said April.

Captain Dan Baumann with the Waukesha Police Department said a man and a woman are responsible for multiple package thefts in the City. He said thanks to the community providing police with surveillance footage, they were able to identify the suspects. They posted a description and videos online, and in less than 48 hours, they found the female suspect with multiple stolen packages in her vehicle.

"If we did not have the audio and video recordings from our community members, this would have never been resolved as quickly as it was," said Captain Baumann.

Captian Baumann said he is happy to have a positive ending for the children and just in time for trick-or-treating.

"It was nice to see the community come together, the police come together to bring an awesome resolution to these two kids, so they have their costume for today for tonight," said Captian Baumann.

Jackson is ready to dress up as his favorite hero Batman, but the family said it's the police who were the real superheroes.

"We are ecstatic, ecstatic because it gives us more time to carve pumpkins," said April.

Police are still searching for a known male suspect.
