MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Police told TODAY’S TMJ4 speeding was a factor in the moments before a crash that sent seven people to area hospitals, including four children.

Investigators said the crash was head-on, between two cars. Five people were inside the speeding car, according to officials.

"They think it’s a drag strip from Capitol to Hampton," said Robert Jackson, a resident.

Luevennia Taylor lives in the neighborhood near Hampton and Congress. She said the area is in dire need of speed humps.

"We don’t know what else to do," she said. "We need help getting speedbumps," Taylor said.

Ashanti Hamilton, president of the Milwaukee Common Council, said a city task force is just weeks away from presenting its recommendations about how to tackle reckless driving in Milwaukee.

Physical changes in roads can include more bump-outs, roundabouts and speed humps on city streets. Hamilton said police could also reallocate resources to areas where reckless driving is especially problematic.

"It'll enforce changes in behavior," Hamilton said.

Taylor said she’s hoping changed behaviors lead to change before it's too late for anyone else.
