FOND DU LAC -- A hazardous materials team was called to a Fond du Lac gas station early Friday after a suspicious substance was found in a garbage can.
The incident happened at approximately 12:50 a.m. at the BP Kwik Mart, 36 West Scott St.
According to Fond du Lac Fire Rescue, a man was searching through a garbage can for aluminum cans and noticed white powder on a plastic bottle. Shortly after, officials said the man developed a burning sensation in his eyes and face area.
The chemical was removed, contained in a plastic bottle and placed in a safe location.
Authorities are now investigating to figure out what the chemical was and how it got there.
