St. Francis Police say their large response to a location near Bottsford and Pennsylvania Avenues Monday night was a “swatting” incident.
Police explained “swatting” is a harassment technique to get a large police presence at a person's residence when no crime or emergency has occurred.
Police say they were called to the home at 6 34 p.m. by an unknown caller who said they had just shot a member of the family in the head and was holding other family members hostage.
Officers along with the South Shore Joint Tactical Team responded to the call. They determined everyone in the home was safe and unaware of the call.
Police report the investigation into the swatting call is ongoing, and there is no danger to the public due to this incident.
