BAY VIEW — The South Shore Frolics, which was a Bay View fixture for more than six decades, will not return this year or in “the foreseeable future,” according to the Frolics Facebook page.
The festival featured parades, live music, food, classic car shows and the “Blow Up The Beach” fireworks display. That tradition ended in late 2017, when the Bay View Lions Club announced in 2018 the fest would not return.
The Lions Club had hosted the South Shore Park festival since 1995.
The Bay View Lions attributed the latest cancellation to “skyrocketing costs.”
The Lions Club also canceled the parade in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. “Blow Up The Beach” was canceled in 2016.
Some Bay View neighbors have complained about the noise, litter and property damage associated with the event, and some said the atmosphere no longer represents Bay View.
