Some families still holding on to Foxconn area homes

Some families are still in a legal battle with the Village of Mt.Pleasant as construction crews work feverishly on the Foxconn project nearby.

Catherine Jensen has lived in her Mt.Pleasant home on the Northwest corner of the project area for 23 years and says she wants to stay.

Jensen said she and others in the area were sent eminent domain letters in August.

"We all got the same eminent domain letter back in August giving us basically our 90 days to vacate the premises by Nov. 19," said Jensen. "They've deposited a check in a trust account and said we own your house."

The money is being held in a trust account while the legal issues are worked out.

"They keep calling us holdouts like we're going to get this huge amount of money, it's not going to happen. Nobody is getting a huge amount of money unless you own 50,000 acres of farmland... We don't want their money we want our house," Jensen said.

Jensen is hoping a judge will put a hold on everything and save her house from eminent domain while her lawsuit against the village makes its way through the court system.

The Village of Mt. Pleasant has said in the past it is offering 140 percent of the property value in the area. Jensen said her offer fell short of that. The Village of Mt. Pleasant did not return calls or emails before news time.
