A sold-out playoff game between the boys basketball teams at Pewaukee and Whitnall High schools drew more than 3,500 people Thursday night.

Hundreds of them lined up hours in advance to try and score the last remaining tickets. The interest was so high, the venue changed at the last minute from Greenfield High to New Berlin West.

Fans came to watch two of the top teams in the state compete in the playoffs.

Karen Kieffer says she came to support Whitnall.

"I think it’s so wonderful that people like high school basketball," she said.

So many people, in fact, the 3,500 seat facility was standing room only even before the game got started.

"This is unbelievable how many people are here," said Jake Tetzlaff.

He and his wife Casey are both Pewaukee grads.

"I’m shocked right now to be quite honest," said Casey.

Many people said they came to watch Whitnall player Tyler Herro.

"He's going to Kentucky, he's gonna be a superstar," said Tom Singer, whose son attended Whitnall.

Both teams have excellent records and excellent fans cheering them on.

"Small town, we stick together," said Jake Tetzlaff.

Pewaukee won the game and will advance to the sectional final on Saturday.
