TWO RIVERS — The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains located in the Town of Two Rivers on Saturday, September 7.

According to the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office, a deer hunter found human skeletal remains on private property in the town of Two Rivers on Saturday.

“It’s all over Facebook, all over social media, and people are driving around taking videos. Everyone’s assuming it’s Vue,” Cinderella Luebke, a Two Rivers resident, said after getting the message.

Elijah Vue is the three-year-old who went missing back in February.

Sheriff Dan Hartwig acknowledged the ongoing case of Elijah Vue but said they are unable to confirm whether the remains discovered over the weekend are related to the case.

Sheriff Hartwig added in a news release Sunday evening that “determining the identity will be a lengthy process. We appreciate the public's patience and understanding as we continue the investigation."

Many neighbors in the area though immediately thought of Vue.

“I don’t think we have any children around here other than him that came up missing,” Pearl Luebke said.

Residents of the Town of Two Rivers told TMJ4 they have been waiting and praying for Vue to be found, and many have conducted their own searches.

“We went into our silo and looked down in there. Every time I drove I looked in ditches,” Mary Edwards, a neighbor, explained.

While in the area, TMJ4 saw a Two Rivers police car parked outside Camp Manito Girl Scout Camp.

A camp spokesperson wrote on Facebook, "There is no police investigation going on at Camp Manitou. The rumors circulating about police investigating Camp Manitou are erroneous. Camp Manitou is not involved in this investigation."

The Sheriff’s Office added that the camp is not where the remains were found.

The sheriff's office stated that no additional information will be released at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
