Six people have been charged in connection with the murder of a Milwaukee man, that his family said was mentally ill.

Surveillance video from before the shooting last month shows Jonathon Blackmon grabbing a hat from a woman’s head, and forcefully grabbing another by the back of her sweatshirt.

It happened inside a gas station at 31st and Lisbon. Blackmon eventually left the store.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman whose hat was stolen, Nova Armstrong, contacted relatives for help. They shot Blackmon as he walked away.

According to his family, two days before he was killed, Blackmon went to the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex, where he was later released.

The day he died, he went to Ascension St. Joseph's Hospital and was let back on the street a few hours before his death.
