MILWAUKEE — A semi-flatbed truck carrying an oversized containment unit on northbound I-43 struck the overpass at Lincoln Ave. about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, causing a full closure of the northbound interstate for over three hours.

Large pieces of metal and other debris were scattered across all three lanes during rush hour, forcing traffic to be diverted at Holt Ave about 7 a.m.

The safety vehicle following the semi was hit by debris and its two occupants were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi, Diego A. Cantillo was cited for operating a vehicle (excess in height) without a permit, spilling waste load on/along highway, and operating vehicle (excess width) without a permit.

All lanes were cleared and reopened at 10:49 a.m.
