Science experiments with the kids: A crushingly cool science experiment

and last updated

If you're looking to keep your kids busy, here is an experiment to try with your kiddos from Storm Team 4 Meteorologist Elissia Wilson.

Supplies
2 Empty 12oz. cans
A Bowl
Ice Water
Tongs
Skillet or Pan

For this experiment you will need some empty cans, a bowl of ice water, a pan and a pair of tongs.

In this experiment, we are going to demonstrate how changes in temperature and air pressure will crush the can or cause it to implode.

First put a little water inside the cans and then heat them on the stove until steam begins coming from the top of the cans.

Next place your bowl of ice water next to the stove.

When you're ready, grab the tongs and carefully but quickly turn the can upside down, placing the can into the ice cold water.

The can will become crushed or implode because of the quick change in temperature and pressure outside of the can.
