South Shore Frolics fireworks near end

A lot is riding on the fireworks at the South Shore Frolics this weekend.

A debate with some Bay View home owners canceled the part of the finale known as "Blow Up the Beach."

But the Frolics and the show is still going on.

People were out early to stake spots and get their food before the big fireworks show at the South Shore Frolics.

But some of the people who came out were in for a shock.

"Did you hear, blow up the beach has been canceled?" asked TODAY'S TMJ4 Reporter Rebecca Klopf.

"What, 'Blow up the Beach' has been canceled?" replied, Maxine Collova.

"I didn't know until we got here, honestly," says Anthony Wojak.

Some speculated that might be why it looked like a little empty.

Collova who has been attending the event for 25 straight years, says it usually hard to find a place to set up a chair. "This park on the first day was just packed," says Collova.

But for the kids at the Frolics they are not are worried.

"I really don't care as long as their are fireworks," says Jeovanie Hernandez.

And the Bay View Lions' Club knows it. They say they are going to put on a show worthy of the frolics.

"We will not disappoint tonight whatsoever," says Dave Reszel, South Shore Frolics public relations.

"People will judge by tonight and we are going to perhaps blow up the sky and/or shake the lake."

You can check out the show yourself at South Shore Park, 2900 South Shore Drive.

The South Shore Frolics run until July 17 with a fireworks show every night.
