ILLINOIS — In the first day of legal recreational marijuana sales, customers spent over $3 million, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The Tribune said that more than 77,000 customers bought legal weed at dispensaries around the state, some of which have implemented buying limits. A total of 37 dispensaries are selling recreational weed in Illinois, nine of which are in Chicago.

Wisconsin authorities are reminding residents that though weed is now legal in Illinois, it remains illegal in the badger state. Illinois residents can go to their homes and consume it, but those who live in Wisconsin cannot bring it back.

People from out of state can buy half of what an Illinois resident can, which is up to 15 grams or marijuana per day or 250 milligrams of the active ingredient in edibles.

Dispensaries expect the lines of people to continue into the weekend.

Illinois is the 11th state to allow marijuana for its use and sale.
