KENOSHA — The 17-year-old accused of shooting three protesters, two to death, in Kenosha this week is a former member of a youth police cadet program with an fondness for guns, CNN reports.

Grayslake Police Chief Phillip L. Perlini tells the news outletthat Kyle Rittenhouse was a former Public Safety Cadet. Grayslake is located about 10 miles from Antioch, Illinois.

Rittenhouse was arrested in Antioch Wednesday and charged with first-degree intentional homicide. He turned himself in at the Antioch police headquarters, according to police. Prosecutors say Rittenhouse opened fire with a long gun on a crowd of protesters Tuesday night near Civic Center Park in Kenosha.

One victim was injured and is recovering in the hospital. The other two were pronounced dead from bullet wounds.

Rittenhouse remains in custody of the Lake County Judicial System awaiting extradition to Wisconsin.

CNN reports that social media accounts believed to belong to Rittenhouse show a young White man with an affinity for guns who supports Blue Lives Matter and President Donald Trump.

Rittenhouse also posted a video from a Trump rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on one of his TikTok accounts, according to CNN.

Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway said that the White House is "not responsible for the private conduct of people who go to rallies."
