One local school district could be helping to change the face of snow days in the state.
Years ago DPI asked schools if any wanted to test a pilot program called 'Digital Snow Day.' Instead of missing school for inclement weather, students would learn from home using iPads or laptops.
After years in the planning, the Random Lake School District could finally test out its 'Digital Snow Day.' Younger students would log in on their parent's devices with assignments that take learning outside of the classroom.
Michael Timberger, the Superintendent of the district, is excited for the opportunity to test the program.
"We’re always trying to look for different ways to give our students that an advantage and the digital snow days is one of those opportunities to show students that learning doesn’t just take place at school but can take place at home," said Trimberger.
If the trial works, meaning if over 90 percent of students participate, the program could be extended to more snow days and students wouldn't have to make up days in the summer. But for now, the Digital Snow Day is one day depending on if the school closes for weather.
