A Racine Correctional Institute staff member was charged with sexual assault Wednesday for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

Loralie Schultz, a file clerk at the facility, had developed a friendship with an inmate which grew into a sexual relationship, according to Racine County Circuit Court documents.

Along with sexual assault, Schultz has been charged with delivering illegal articles to the inmate.

Schultz told the Racine County Sheriff’s Department that the relationship had started with her bringing the inmate a cell phone, chewing tobacco and a sewing kit hidden in her sock.
