Prescription drug take-back day in Wisconsin is Saturday

MILWAUKEE — The Wisconsin Department of Justice is planning a Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative Saturday to encourage people to safely dispose of medications.

Law enforcement agencies across the state will host collection sites. Drop-off locations will provide disposal boxes and plastic bags. Residents should bring prescription and over-the-counter medications, ointments, non-aerosol sprays, inhalers, creams and pet medications. Residents should not bring illegal drugs, needles, hazardous materials, products containing mercury or personal products.

Unused medications pose a threat because they could be accidentally eaten, stolen or abused. Medications that are flushed or poured down the drain end up in the water supply, according to the Wisconsin DOJ.

West Milwaukee Police, Shorewood Police, most Milwaukee Police district stations and Marquette and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus police will be hosting drop-off locations, along with pharmacies across the city. For more information and a full list of drop-off locations, visit the Wisconsin DOJ website.
