One person was safely rescued from a house fire Monday, while a dog inside the home did not survive.
The South Shore Fire Department was dispatched to s fire on 16th Street in Mount Pleasant just before midnight. Upon arrival, they found the occupant of the home to be be safely removed from a window by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
Fire attack was initiated near the rear of the home after crews spotted heavy fire. Firefighters were able to put out the fire and enter the home when they located a dog.
Crews removed the dog from the home and attempted life-saving measures, but ultimately the animal did not survive.
The person rescued from the home was taken to All Saints - Racine with non-life-threatening injuries.
The home sustained major heat and smoke damage. A neighboring structure sustained minor damage to the vinyl siding due to radiant heat.
WE Energies also assisted at the scene with downed wire behind the house.
