The sixth annual Peaceful Picnic in Milwaukee for homeless and at-risk homeless people was held at 24th and Center Thursday afternoon.
The outdoor event is put on every year by the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary and meant to make sure everyone has a place to celebrate Independence Day.
"We have always wanted people to feel as if everyone is at the table, the American Table on the Fourth of July," said Sister MacCanon Brown, CEO of the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary.
Over four dozen volunteers started setting up the event at 7:30 a.m. to prepare food and distribution tables.
Along with a free meal, the guest also received clothes, canned food, and children picked out free toys.
Mayor Tom Barrett stopped by the event to show his support for the non-profit organization.
"You don't want people to be forgotten on the Fourth of July," said Mayor Barrett.
