Owner charged with drugging woman at August Weber Haus Restaurant in Cedarburg

CEDARBURG -- The owner of August Weber Haus Restaurant in Cedarburg has been charged with drugging a woman back in 2014.

Jacob Banas is accused of administering a stupefying substance with the intent to facilitate the commission of a crime.

Accusations regarding Banas have surfaced since 2014 after four women came forward with claims of drugging and sexual assault but no charges were filed until now.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim claims that Banas, who she had met on several occasions, had come over to talk -- and then brought her and her friend a shot a brown liquid. After she had taken the drink, she says she became disoriented in a different way from being intoxicated.

The complaint goes on to say that the victim's friend and husband had noticed she acted differently.

The victim's hair was also examined by the FBI which was tested positive for doxylamine, which is commonly found in antihistamines.

The restaurant lost their liquor license last November due to their sporadic and limited business hours. The restaurant had been boycotted and protested against since the 2014 accusations.

If convicted, Banas could face up to a $25,000 fine, a maximum of 12 and a half years in prison or both.
