MILWAUKEE — The City of Milwaukee Health Department announced Friday that the number of people hospitalized due to the flu has increased from this time last year.
At this time last year, 17 people had been hospitalized with flu related illness. That number is drastically lower than this year, which is currently sitting at 131. That is 131 hospitalizations from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31.
The City of Milwaukee Health Department is reminding residents that it is not too late to get your flu shot.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccination for anyone 6 months old or older.
In a press release, the City of Milwaukee Health Department stated, "The U.S. has a longstanding vaccine safety system that ensures vaccines are as safe as possible, and there is no evidence to suggest that vaccines threaten a long, healthy life."
