One suspect identified in officer involved shooting

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Police Department has released the name of one suspect who was involved in a shooting that injured a Milwaukee Police officer.

On Tuesday, police attempted to do a traffic stop for a reckless driver in the 5000 block of North 27 Street. The suspects fled and led the police on a pursuit.

Eventually, the suspect vehicle struck a pole near North Teutonia Avenue. Two suspects were arrested, but their names have not been released.

The third suspect, Major Artis, 25, ran from and shot at police. The officers fired back, but Artis continued to run.

Around an hour later, Artis was found dead. He suffered from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside of a garage. Police found his firearm at the scene.

Police Officer Robert Parks sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. His partner, Police Officer Adam Maritato was not injured.

Both officers have been placed on administrative duty, as this is standard operating procedure.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Milwaukee Police Department is investigating this incident.
