PLYMOUTH, Wisc. -- The remains of one adult victim have been recovered from an early morning apartment complex fire in Plymouth Thursday, according to police.

A 46-year-old woman who ran into the burning building to look for her children is still missing, but police said they couldn't yet positively identify the body that was recovered. Nobody else has been reported missing.

The fire broke out at around 1 a.m. at an apartment building on Mill Street in the downtown area of the Sheboygan County city.

Fire officials say the woman who ran in the building did not realize that her two children had already made it out safely.

Hours after the fire, emergency crews were still on the scene putting out hot spots at the building in the heart of the downtown area.

Investigators are going through the building in an effort to do a search, but the building is still unstable.

It's not clear how many people were displaced by the fire. Residents were being housed at a nearby inn.

Two people were treated for minor injuries a the scene and took themselves to the hospital.

The extent of the damage is not clear.

Investigators say there were working fire alarms at the scene.
