The Office of the Inspector General has released a report exposing harm happening to hospice beneficiaries.
The national survey examined a dozen of the most egregious cases from 2016.
It shows government inspectors found serious problems in the quality of care provided to those living their last moments. The report addresses problems like caregiver abuse, hospices failing to take action and problems in reporting requirements.
In Wisconsin, the I-Team crunched the numbers and uncovered since 2016, nursing homes in our state have paid about $7 million in federal fines for lack of quality care and that more than half of nursing homes within 50 miles of Milwaukee are rated below average or worse.
