MILWAUKEE -- A new Cermak Fresh Market Store officially opened its doors in the Walker’s Point Neighborhood Wednesday morning, after years of pleading by neighbors in the area.
The new store, located at the intersection of 1st Street and Greenfield Avenue, is part of this new, mixed use development.
The Walker's Point Association tells TODAY’S TMJ4 that the community has been pushing the city for help in attracting a grocery store for several years, especially one convenient for neighbors to walk or bike to.
There was some doubt that a supermarket in walker's point would draw enough customers -- since so much of the surrounding area is industrial.
However, the residents of Walker's Point neighborhood say a grocery store is critical to quality of life -- more so than restaurants or cafes like those a few blocks away.
A study by the Hunger Task Force showed grocery prices at small, corner stores are often 40 percent higher than what you'd find in large supermarkets.
