Neighbors say a father was killed in a Town of Waukesha fire while trying to save two of his children.
According to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office, a 9-year-old child made it out of the burning home. But an adult and two other children did not.
The sheriff’s office said around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, a neighbor called 911 to report the home near Sultan Street and Arcadian Avenue was on fire.
A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said a man and his 80-year-old mother own the home. They rent the upper floor to a father and his children.
“The roommate came down with one of the kids and he told the kid to stay here and he ran back up to get the other two kids and he never came back out,” said the unidentified neighbor.
The Waukesha County Sheriff office said the 9-year-old who made it out of the fire was taken to Children’s Hospital for observation but should be okay. They recovered the bodies of two other children and an adult.
“That’s heartbreaking,” said neighbor Rick Rendon.
Sheriff’s deputies tried to get to the victims when they arrived but could not make it through the fire. A deputy had to be treated for first degree burns. It took fire department from 13 area towns to get it out. The entire neighborhood had to be shut down for hours.
“That fire was going real good. To see anyone survive that it’s a miracle,” said Rendon.
The 80-year-old woman from the home was taken to the hospital for observation. The deputy who was burned has already been treated and released.
