Fire departments from across Southeast Wisconsin battled a structure fire in Jefferson County Monday morning.

Neighbors reported a heavy presence of fire department vehicles arriving on Northside Drive in Watertown, near County Highway P, just before 7 a.m.

At 10 a.m., heavy smoke could still be seen emanating from the area of the fire scene.

Ixonia, Lebanon, Hartland, Dousman and possibly other fire departments were on scene.

"We heard quite a few explosions going off," said Joyce Oetken, who lives across the street.

Oetken thinks the structure on fire was a commercial building.

"There were so many fire trucks going by," she said. "There was a lot of dark smoke. It covered the sky pretty good."

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies on the scene said, as of 10:15 a.m., crews were still too busy to provide an update on the fire.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to two fires, one at a shed and another at a home. Twenty-four crews from various departments were on scene.
