MILWAUKEE - The philanthropic efforts of Herb Kohl and his foundation have positively impacted the lives of many people across Milwaukee and the rest of the state and even the country.
Jennifer Doucette, the principal at Cooper Elementary School on Milwaukee's south side is no stranger to Kohl's generosity. She spent Thursday spreading the gift of giving to her staff and teachers.
"We are saying thank you to our sensational teachers and staff at Cooper School," Doucette said.
She said 'thank you' Thursday by giving her teachers and staff a break during the school's teacher appreciation week.
According to Doucette, she knows a thing or two about great gifts because she's received a few of her own. One of the greatest being an award from philanthropist Herb Kohl.
"I had two teachers as well as a group of students nominate me this year for being a recipient," Doucette said. "It has been such an exciting and wonderful event."
Doucette is now a recipient of the Herb Kohl Principal Leadership award. She said it's something she'll always cherish and now knowing future ninth grade MPS students may take a trip to Washington D.C. on behalf of Herb Kohl is simply icing on the cake.
"When I heard that Herb Kohl was offering and generously giving the money to provide this incredible experience for our students, I was thrilled to hear that," Doucette said.
As a Herb Kohl Principal Leadership Program award recipient Doucette and 15 other principals received a $3,000 grant. Douchette says Mr. Kohl doubled the amount of that grant for all the recipients out of the kindness of his heart.
