MILWAUKEE -- On Friday, f ollowing thefatal car crash that took the life of Officer Charles Irvine Jr., Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales took questions from the media regarding the incident.

Morales answered questions after making a statement. He then became visibly upset after being asked whether he knew if a Sergeant had called off the chase before the crash.

Irvine Jr. was killed when his squad car rolled over during a pursuit of a reckless driver near N. 76th St. and W. Silver Spring Dr. just after 5 p.m. Thursday.

"We have an officer that died yesterday. We are grieving." he said.

Chief Morales then accused the media of trying to "create controversy".

This is the first case involving the death of an officer in 22 years.

Chief Morales pleaded that MPD needs time to grieve before walking away from the podium without taking any more questions.
