MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Police Department recently issued bids for a tactical gas delivery system, gas masks, and other equipment. Those bids have since been canceled after Alderman Nik Kovac opposed the purchase.

Kovak is the Alderman for Milwaukee, District 3. He found out about these bids and decided to go to the city's purchasing director. She said the equipment was for the DNC.

However, due to current conditions and the history of this type of equipment, Kovac told the purchasing director and the finance and personnel committee that he opposed the purchase.

According to a Facebook post from Kovac, a majority of the committee agreed with him.

The objections were then brought to Mayor Tom Barrett, who also opposed the purchase. From there, the bids were canceled.

According to Kovac, a previous bid request for "remote firing kits" will also be stopped.

Kovac wrapped up his post by thanking Milwaukee resident for bringing the bids to his attention. He said, "Keep holding elected officials and the police department accountable!"
