MILWAUKEE -- There was quite a commotion Wednesday morning on Milwaukee's south side as crews arrived to cut down this year's Christmas tree.
The 32-foot Colorado Blue Spruce was located at 26th and Maple. The 26-year-old tree was donated by Thomas Scannell and his mom Elizabeth Hipp.
"I'm kind of sad to see it go, but I'll be very proud to see it at city hall," said Scannel.
Scannel just bought the house and the beautiful big tree was just part of the deal.
However, Tom's mom knew the owners of the house before her son purchased it, and she says the tree was planted more than two decades ago as a Father's Day present.
This is the 104th year for the Christmas celebration in Milwaukee. The second oldest in the country right behind New York City.
"Some of the children that will go and see the tree it might be the only Christmas tree that they have and I'd like it to be as beautiful as possible," said Hipp.
The Spruce was secured to a truck and then slowly driven several blocks to Milwaukee's City Hall.
The tree lighting ceremony is set for Nov 16th.
