GREENFIELD -- A Milwaukee woman has been officially charged after allegedly setting fire to her ex-boyfriend's apartment earlier this year, according to a criminal complaint.
26-year-old Mai Lee Lor faces one count of arson of a building and one count of first degree recklessly endangering safety. She's accused of setting fire to her ex-boyfriend's apartment building in Greenfield back in February.
According to the account of a Greenfield police detective in the criminal complaint, Lee admitted to setting the fire with the express purpose of hurting her ex-boyfriend, who had fathered two children with another woman since his relationship with Lee.
Lee told detectives that she poured gasoline from a water bottle on her ex-boyfriend's doormat and door before lighting it on fire with a match and leaving the building. She had a gun with her and "planned to go and kill the children," according to the complaint, but that plan fell through.
Emergency responders also had to rescue several neighbors who were trapped on balconies due to the fire, the complaint says.
The suspect was eventually brought to custody when her ex-boyfriend turned in several letters to police, apparently written by Lee, that detailed the fire and matched another sample of her handwriting.
Lee faces more than 50 years in prison if convicted of both charges.
