MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) and the Florentine Opera Chorus have been nominated for a Grammy for the category of Best Opera Recording.
The nominated performance was an opera called Prince of Players. The Marcus Center of Performing Arts describes the performance as a modern opera set in Restoration-era England.
The work follows the story of Edward Kynaston, the last great male actor to play female characters on stage. It showcases a bawdy pub song and a famous Shakespeare play, the Marcus Center said online.
Our local nominees are up against the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Il Pomo D'Oro, and the Orchestra Of The Deutsche Oper Berlin.
The Grammy Awards are scheduled for Jan. 31. See a full list of nominees here.
