At Red Lion Pub you can grab a drink, grab a bite or kick a ball?
“Pool ball is what we've called it,” said Co-Owner David Price.
Pool ball is a combination of pool and soccer.
“So the game itself essentially is the same as pool but instead of playing pool with cues, your cues are your legs so we play pool ball,” he explained.
On this day, Price and bartender Kayleigh Horder are playing. They determine a color, kick the correct-colored ball into the pocket, try not to scratch, and just like in pool, kick the eight ball, or black ball, in last.
“It's a lot more difficult than it looks,” Horder said with a smile. “Like I played soccer for a lot of years before coming to the states and all the technique you've learned you have to throw it out the window and everybody's a beginner in this game so it's cool.”
“It's the only one in the city,” she added. “It's something different.”
And customers are taking notice.
“A lot of people will come in and be like where's the soccer pool? And I'm like upstairs, you don't have to speak to me. It's fine you can walk right past,” she recounted with a laugh.
Because at this business, there's other business to take care of and it involves a life-size pool table and soccer.
“To have something like this and contribute to the growth of the sport in the city is amazing for us,” Price said. “It makes it very rewarding.”
