MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Police Department have identified and released a photo of the officer killed in Thursday evening's rollover crash as 23-year-old Charles Irvine Jr.

Irvine Jr. was killed when his squad car rolled over during a pursuit of a reckless driver that ended near N. 76th St. and W. Silver Spring Dr. just after 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

He was a police aide for two years, and an officer for nearly two years, beginning his service with the department at 19.

Irvine Jr.'s death is the first line of duty death for the Milwaukee Police Department in 22 years. Officer Wendolyn Tanner was shot and killed in a foot chase in September of 1996.

The other officer injured in the crash suffered serious injuries, police say. He's been identified as Officer Matthew Schulze, 36, with four years of service. Police say he is in stable condition.
