A Milwaukee police officer involved in a deadly mistake in the Jeffrey Dahmer case retired Thursday.

John Balcerzak and his partner were fired from the MPD and later reinstated after returning 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone to Dahmer back in 1991.

The boy had escaped Dahmer’s apartment naked and bleeding. Dahmer told the officers the boy was an adult and his lover and he was drunk.

The 14-year-old was killed, and Dahmer was arrested several months later.
