ST. FRANCIS -- An off-duty Milwaukee police officer was arrested in St. Francis Thursday evening in relation to a sexual assault investigation, police there say.

St. Francis police say they are not naming the officer, but say he has been with Milwaukee Police for almost two years, assigned to District 3.

"It is important to note the allegations made against the officer occurred while the officer was off duty and at his residence in St. Francis," a news release from police says.

A decision to charge the officer could come as soon as Monday, police say. The officer is currently being held at the Milwaukee County Jail.

The officer has been placed on paid suspension, Milwaukee police say.

"Milwaukee Police are aware of the allegations and we are taking this matter seriously. The member involved in the incident was placed on paid suspension," a spokesperson said.
