MILWAUKEE-- The Milwaukee Police Department is working to determine the circumstances behind a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday.
Investigators responded to the 1800 block of N. Farwell Avenue about 10 p.m. for reports of the shooting. The Milwaukee Fire Department confirmed that a 34-year-old man was shot and killed during the incident.
The shooting became an emotional scene as what appeared to be the victim's loved ones arrived to learn more about the incident.
"It's pretty surprising," said Nic Roberts, a former Wisconsin resident visiting from Alaska. "I know this street well enough, but never heard anything like that here."
For Rick Dwiontek, a resident of a nearby apartment complex, seeing the aftermath first-hand was a jarring experience.
"When I first came down the hallway, I saw the yellow tape cutting off the area [to the apartment entrance], Swiontek said. "There was five to seven poeple trying to revive the poor gentlemen that got shot."
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner was called to the scene about 10:30 p.m. to assist with the investigation.
