MILWAUKEE — A big change is coming to the Milwaukee Safety Academy: the Fallen Officers Memorial was taken down Wednesday to make way for a more expansive exhibit.

Work will begin on the new exhibit right away. It will include interactive features to more fully honor the 65 officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the 134-year history of the Milwaukee Police Department.

The Milwaukee Police Historical Society is looking to raise $100,000 to fund the project. It has already reached about half of that goal.

Contributions can be made online or at any Milwaukee-area BMO Harris Bank branch.

Checks can also be mailed to: Milwaukee Police Historical Society, c/o Fallen Officers Memorial, 6680 N. Teutonia Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53209.

The Milwaukee Police Historical Society plans to begin install of the new memorial by year-end. Through this interactive commemoration, officers' stories will be heard and remembered for generations to come.
