MILWAUKEE — On Holton and Locust Streets, artist Chris Burke spray painted the finishing touches on a new mural honoring Breonna Taylor. Taylor, an aspiring nurse was shot and killed in her home by Louisville Metro Police Officers in March.
Christian Wilder stopped by the mural with his family. Wilder, a young child, said he feels the impact of the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
"They killed him and he had a long life to live, but they killed him," said Wilder.
For Michelle Crockett, looking at the mural was powerful and moving. She said seeing the outcry against police brutality reminds her of when she fought for civil rights with her parents.
"I hope it brings improvement to our city to our word that everyone be treated equally," said Crockett.
Johnny Miller said, unfortunately, history has repeated itself too many times, and he is ready for our country to change.
"This young lady died for no reason, Floyd, George Floyd, died for no reason and he is a list of the thousands of black men who have died under police custody and nobody has been held accountable. It’s about time we hold police accountable." Miller said. "We ultimately want to live. We want to prosper and we want to live the American dream."
Artists plan on painting an additional collective mural this Saturday.
