MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee man has been charged with accidentally shooting himself and his 4-year-old daughter, contradicting his earlier story, police say.

Officers say 33-year-old Myles Kovac changed his story to police several times, including telling police that the toddler accidentally found his gun and injured both of them.

Once Kovac was arrested, he later admitted all of his prior statements were false. That's when he told a detective "I did it," claiming to be the person responsible for shooting himself and then his daughter.

Kovac then told police the gun was "gone, long gone" and that he should have "never had that." Then, he told the detective he wanted to rest and he would disclose the location of the gun the next day.

The next day, police went to learn the location of the gun and the suspect, according to court documents, became irate and denied making any of his prior admissions.

Neither Kovac nor his daughter were seriously hurt.
