The community showed a grand gesture of support Friday for an 8-year-old boy who is recovering from a shooting.
The boy is still in the hospital, but his father expressed his thanks.
“Kids can't even play like they are supposed too. It’s heartbreaking,” said Kravon Wilson.
Wilson, like any parent, wants to protect his children. But on Monday he received a call no parent wants to hear.
“I was woke to the call that my son had been shot,” he said.
Caught in the crossfire, little Derrion was struck three times by bullets flying near 34th and Locust.
“As parents, we always try to encourage them to play get off the tablets off the video games. It is kind of hard for them to do that when things like this happen,” Wilson said.
The 8-year-old is recovering at Children's Hospital.
For the ones responsible, Wilson has one request.
“Community we need unity. If we can get a little unity maybe we can reach some of these youth out here making these horrible mistakes,” he said.
