A 17-year-old timber wolf at Milwaukee County Zoo has died.
The zoo announced the passing of “Nikan” on Facebook Friday. The timber wolf who arrived at the zoo in 1999 as a pup with his four littermates.
"He was shy and overcame everything that life threw at him,” zookeepers said on the Facebook post. “He got to have one of his favorite treats in his last days, which was enjoyed with gusto."
Nikan is native American for “friend.”He was the last of littermates, and the zoo will not be seeking more wolves for the time being.
