MILWAUKEE -- 30-year-old California sea lion Slick has passed away, the Milwaukee County Zoo announced Tuesday.

"At 30 years of age, Slick was believed to be the oldest living California sea lion in human care," the zoo said. "Slick was an ambassador for his wild counterparts, touching thousands of hearts and educating patrons about marine mammal conversation."

In the wild, male sea lions have an average lifespan of eight to ten years, the zoo says.

Slick sired 8 pups during his time at Milwaukee County Zoo's Oceans of Fun. The zoo said he was a favorite among guests.

A 17-year-old timber wolf named Nikan died at the zoo last week as well.
